Word Guessing Game

Guess the hidden word in six tries. Pick how many letters.

Type a word and press Enter. Green means the right letter in the right place, yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all. You have six guesses.

A strong first guess uses common letters, such as E, A, R, T and O, with no repeats. For longer words, look for endings like -ING, -ED and -ER early on.

Repeated letters follow a simple rule: a letter is only coloured as many times as it appears in the hidden word. If you guess a word with two Ls and only one is in the answer, one L is coloured and the other is grey.

Switch to Daily word to play the puzzle everyone shares that day, then copy your coloured result to compare with friends.

Tips for guessing faster

Why choose a different length?

Four-letter words are quick and a good warm-up. Six and seven-letter words give you more information per guess, because there are more letters to colour, but the pool of possible words is wider. Many players find seven letters surprisingly easy once a few vowels appear.

Frequently asked questions

Does it have to be five letters?

No. Choose 4, 5, 6 or 7 letters with the buttons above the grid.

How do repeated letters work?

Each letter is only marked as many times as it appears in the answer.

Can I play the daily word for every length?

Yes. Each length has its own daily word.

Do I get points?

Yes. Fewer guesses earn more fun points, and longer words earn a small bonus.
